Slope Day Thanks; Lost & Found
Thanks
This was another Slope Day to remember thanks to the help of everyone. Thank you Volunteers for donating your valuable time to make this event run smoothly and safely. Thank you Logistics and Steering Commitee Members, for finding a way to make this event occur in a time where funds are limited; the Cornell Community greatly appreciates it. And last, but certainly not least, thank YOU, the thousands of students, staff, faculty, alumni and guests for listening to our requests to promote a safe Slope Day. Thanks.
Lost & Found
Did you lose a valuable item on the slope? It may have been turned into the Lost & Found tent at some point during the event. If someone has turned in your item, you will be able to find it at the Lost & Found at the Cornell Police station in Barton Hall (Entrances on Statler side and ILR side).

A Word from Dean Hubbell
Dear Cornellian,
As we prepare for tomorrow's Slope Day event, I wish to draw your attention to several emerging situations that may impact the day:
Health officials have confirmed the presence of the H1N1 (swine) flu virus in central New York. Although the number of known cases is still low, this is a growing epidemic of a contagious flu virus, and recovery typically requires 7 days. We advise all community members--especially those facing exam week and other semester deadlines-- to reduce the risk of transmission through standard prevention practices: wash your hands (well and often) or use alcohol-based sanitizer (available on the slope); cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing; don't share cups, bottles, eating utensils, lip balms, pipes or other smoking paraphernalia; do all you can to avoid contact with others' mouth and nose secretions. For more information about the flu virus, visit www.gannett.cornell.edu.
The weather is another concern for Slope Day since thunderstorms are in the forecast. If the rain is light, the show will go on. But if the weather becomes severe (e.g., lightning, high winds) the concert may need to be suspended. Please be aware of this possibility and be prepared to follow instructions from officials. Any weather-related changes prior to the event will be posted at www.cuinfo.cornell.edu.
Lastly, while many students do not drink alcohol or do so moderately on Slope Day, some consume to the point of alcohol poisoning (typically from consuming hard alcohol before the event). Since this condition can be fatal, it's imperative to seek help in an alcohol-related emergency. If someone is severely intoxicated, call 911. Gannett Health Services is also available for 24 hour phone consultation: call 255-5155. The University's Medical Amnesty Protocol reduces or eliminates judicial consequences in alcohol emergencies on campus www.medical-amnesty.cornell.edu. In addition, all community members should be familiar with the University's Policy on Alcohol and Other Drugs www.policy.cornell.edu/vol4_8.cfm.
Thank you for your review of this important information. I wish you a safe Slope Day and a healthy end of the semester.
Sincerely yours,
Kent Hubbell
Dean of Students

Maps and Meals and Minimalism, Oh My!
Updates Galore as we near Slope Day 2009.
Maps
There's a very colorful and helpful map located on the Map page under the Facts Tab. It will give you a general overview of the event. Save it, print it. If you would prefer a more printer-friendly version, there is a link on the top of that page for the greyscale pdf.
Meals
The Dining menu and prices for the event have been released. You can find them under the Dining tab and on the maps. Please check the Cornell Dining Website for the operating hours of the dining halls, as there will be limited service on Friday.
Many campus residential communities are also offering free breakfasts to their residents. The following communities have confirmed their participation: Dickson, Donlon, Ecology House, Flora Rose, High Rises, HILC, Mews, Townhouses, & Ujaama. Residents of these communities are asked to look for specific information about times and locations in communications from their RHDs.
Minimalism
Finally, Spring in Ithaca is very unpredictable, so many people tend to be over prepared, bringing a big bag containing their worst case scenario emergency kit. Unfortunately, if your bag is too big, you will not be allowed on the Slope. While you are allowed a small bag (a small purse or the ever-popular fanny-pack), all bags must pass both a size (see below for a visual aid) and contents check. To skip the long wait in the bag-check line, just bring what you need (CU ID, Gov't issued ID, etc.) and leave the bag at home. If you must bring a bag, please remember the mantra "Smaller is Better on Slope Day". If your bag is too big, you won't be allowed through the gates. Avoid having to go back to your apartment or dorm and bring a small bag or no bag at all.
